The story of The West Works begins in 1881.
Built as a place of worship, gathering and community in Glasgow’s West End, the building would serve generations before changing times and decades of underuse eventually took their toll.
By the time we discovered it, this remarkable building had fallen into serious disrepair. Water ingress, decay and years of neglect had left their mark, and it stood just months away from demolition. Yet beneath it all, its character remained – original sandstone, soaring proportions, remarkable architectural details and more than a century of history waiting to be uncovered.
Rather than erase those imperfections, we chose to work with them.
Now family-owned, The West Works is being painstakingly restored and reimagined for a new generation – preserving what makes the building extraordinary while introducing considered contemporary design and everything required of a modern venue.
